A hearty and flavorful meat sauce perfect for pasta, lasagna, or any Italian-inspired dish.


Ingredients

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef and pork, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, red wine, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
  5. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Cover and let cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed before serving.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
